Product information "Circulation raised bed "Max & Moritz" with 180 liter water reservoir"
Durable raised garden bed for balconies and patios with built-in water reservoir and efficient rainwater harvesting
The GreenLife “Max & Moritz” is an elegant urban gardening system—ideal for patios and balconies. The two-zone raised bed, featuring soil sections of varying depths, provides optimal conditions for both drought-tolerant and moisture-loving plants, as well as shallow- and deep-rooted varieties, creating the perfect conditions for mixed planting.
The integrated 180-liter water reservoir—the lower container—collects excess rainwater or irrigation water that drains downward, creating a nutrient-enriched reservoir. Designed like a modern rain barrel, it can be filled directly from the roof (via a downspout filter) or with a hose—or the system can simply be set up outdoors.
Thoughtful design: Shelving, an ergonomic working height, low weight when filled, and durable, robust materials make “Max & Moritz” a stylish, eco-friendly, and convenient recycling garden bed for modern urban gardeners.

Sustainability
GreenLife stands for durable and resource-efficient plastic solutions. “Max & Moritz” combines high-quality, non-toxic, and food-safe materials with a well-designed water circulation system. The system is 100% recyclable and supports a conscious, sustainable use of water and resources. At the same time, it promotes the creation of small biotopes that can be used year-round – for modern and responsible urban gardening.
Note
The central recess in both containers, combined with the integrated wooden shelf, creates a protected storage area for gardening tools and accessories. At the same time, the hollow space reduces the fill volume and thus the total weight.
When fully filled, the raised bed weighs up to 400 kg—standard balconies can support approx. 500 kg/m² (information provided without guarantee; please check structural integrity). Additional weight reduction is possible if needed (see instructions).

Assembly & Usage Instructions
Recirculating Raised Bed
Please read these instructions thoroughly before beginning assembly. Once the raised bed has been filled, modifications are only possible to a limited extent.
Important Notes
- Total weight up to approx. 400 kg – check structural integrity if necessary.
- Water level can be regulated via the position of the holes.
- Weight reduction possible: Thanks to the design with a central cavity and adjusted fill volume, the total weight can be reduced. If necessary, the fill can be customized (e.g., less substrate or lighter materials).
Tools required
- Cordless screwdriver
- Drill bit Ø 8–10 mm
- Core drill bit Ø 32–45 mm
Filling material
- 50–80 liters of expanded clay (for drainage and water storage)
- approx. 2 m² of geotextile (separation layer)
- Approx. 80 liters of potting soil and organic material
Setup – Step by Step
- Prepare the water container: Check the plug and drill an opening if necessary. The height of the hole will later determine the water level in the system.
- Prepare the planter: Drill drainage holes in the ribs and bottom. These ensure proper drainage and prevent waterlogging.
- Filling: First, fill with expanded clay as a lower drainage and storage layer. Place a geotextile on top as a separating layer, then add potting soil and organic material.
- Assembly: Place the planter on top of the water reservoir and align it correctly.
Water Management & Function
Excess water is collected in the integrated reservoir and reused. An integrated overflow prevents overflow during heavy rain.
Rainwater harvesting
Filling can optionally be done via a downspout system (e.g., rain collector) or a hose . However, the raised bed can also be operated independently of this.
Winter & Draining
Before periods of frost, the water tank should be drained via the lower plug.
How the system works
The system operates as a closed water cycle: no water or nutrients
are lost. Excess irrigation or rainwater seeps through the soil layers into the
water reservoir. In the process, nutrients are carried along, stored, and later made
available to the plants again. This way, water is reused and nutrients remain within the system
